Wednesday 27th 2006...

My Esteemed Teacher's dars on Wednesday 27th December was regarding Eid....

Sayyiduna Anas (Radiallahu Anhu) reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihe Wasallam) migrated from Makkah to Madinah, the people of Madinah used to have two joyous diversions. They carried out carnivals and made those days festive. The Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihe Wasallam) asked the Ansaar (the Muslims of Madinah) concerning this. They answered in addition, before the advent of Islam they used to celebrate these two days.

The Prophet Muhammad (Sallalahu Alaihe Wasallam) told them:

'Instead of those two days, Allah has appointed two other days which are better, the days of Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha.' (Abu Dawud)

These days do not symbolise a specific happening to celebrate.

Eid al-Fitr, is actually celebrated after the month of Ramadan, it is not owing to anything special that occurred on that specific day but Allah gave this day as a gift for striving the whole of Ramadan.

In the same manner Eid-ul-Adha is after the day of Arafah. Allah Subhanahu Watala has allowed us to rejoice on this day and has bestowed upon us an opportunity to participate in the joy with the Haji's (Those who are performing the pilgrimage).

A question may arise:
Don't we celebrate Eid due to the fact that Sayyiduna Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam was ordered to sacrifice Sayyidun Ismail Alaihis Salaam?

Of course, however we must conjure up that Sayyiduna Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam did not perform the sacrifice on that particular day. Therefore these days do not symbolise a specific happening to celebrate unlike other religions.

As an example can be given as apropos of Christmas, Christians believe Sayyiduna Isaa Alaihis Salaam (Jesus) was born on the 25Th December, which in fact is not true, therefore they supposedly celebrate that day.

ADVICES:
*We must all rejoice on these days. Eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves according to the laws of the Shariah.
*We must not disobey our lord Allah by breaking any of his orders due to celebration.
