A rich man is one who has Iman, therefore the thief (shaytaan) will go to a person, who has Iman. Attacking a non-believer will leave him no treasure.
Due to his incredible intelligence he will try his utmost best to lead the believer astray, no matter what level of piety/spirituality they are at. His attempts and plans will become greater, this does not always mean one has weakened their Iman. It can prove that one has strengthened it and making shaytaan work harder.
